You’ve probably heard of The Kettle Gourmet if you are a fan of flavoured gourmet popcorn. Some of my favourite flavours include Chilli crab, Kaya Butter Toast and Salted Caramel. They have recently launched a new range of corn stick snacks called YUMI, with its name derived from the mandarin translation of corn – 玉米 (Yu Mi).
What inspired the curation of the YUMI corn stick is the concept of traditional snacks; and I’m not gonna lie, corn snacks was one of my favourite childhood tidbits too! I was really excited to try out this new product to reminisce the nostalgic flavour.
Unlike other corn snacks in the market which has a more airy feel, YUMI corn stick is more dense. It was extremely crunchy on the first bite, then the corn bits crumbles and melt in your mouth, which was super addictive. Some of the other brands I’ve tried also have a mildly artificial aftertaste but you can really taste through the corn flavour for this snack.
I’m not kidding when I say that it’s easy to finish several packets in one seating.
If I have to put a name to the closest comparison I can find, I think it reminded me of the Twisties snacks too.
YUMI snacks currently come in 3 different flavours – Original, Cheese and Chicken.
Personally I enjoyed the cheese flavour the most as it accentuated the corn taste with its rich cheesy coating. But you definitely can’t go wrong with the original if you can’t make up your mind.
The Kettle Gourmet has always been producing really interesting popcorn flavours and they have outdone themselves again!
