So my days with Virgin Active gym is over, and I have decided to switch to a new gym! It’s not that I don’t like VA, but over time I feel like my fitness expenses are a little too high when I was re-looking into my monthly fitness budget.
For context, I previously signed up with VA for 1 credit weekly, and while it was expensive (as many people said), it made sense since I would spend 10am–5pm there making full use of the gym equipment, classes, and facilities. But over the past few months, I haven’t been utilising it much, so I decided to look for a cheaper gym near my partner’s place instead. That’s when I came across Snap Fitness, conveniently located right beside Potong Pasir MRT, and after trying their free trial, I decided to go for it!
For 6 months commitment, it’s $128/ month, I also enjoyed the waiver of access card ($80) and joining fee ($90) during the July promo. If you go for 1 year commitment, it’s $108 instead. Mention my name ‘MONICE’ if you sign up!

First impression: Well-equipped, clean and most importantly, it is near me.
Things I LIKE about Snap Fitness:
– It is generally quite well equipped
– This outlet is only a few months old, so everything is still very new and clean (hopefully this maintains)
– The bathroom has a dry and wet area, so it’s easier to change, and the doors have proper lock
– There’s a DYSON hair dryer (but only 1)
– (This is a huge plus point for me) There’s a free punching bag with sufficient space around for me to practice boxing (Gloves are provided too if you don’t want to bring your own)
– The separate room that’s usually used for classes is free to use so you can do your own workout e.g. boxing, yoga etc
– Right beside the MRT station
– 24/7 compared to VA
– The staff are generally very friendly and welcoming
– It’s not crowded (I’ve only visited during mornings, so I can’t say for evening peak hours)
– crowdDJ allows you to pick your own songs! (I don’t usually use this as I listen to my own playlist)
Things I DON’T LIKE about Snap Fitness:
– The equipment is not really suited for petite size people like me (E.g. hip thrust angle doesn’t feel right, the abductor machine and seated leg press doesn’t have sufficient depth)
– The cable machine is placed at an area that has a small slope (see next picture), which makes it a little unstable to do certain workouts
– They provide sanitizing wipes (the top sheet always dries out), but I prefer sanitiser liquid
– Towels are not provided, but this isn’t VA, so I’m not expecting them to
The issues are quite minor since I feel like I can work around it, like using foam block for abductor, or doing barbell hip thrust instead.
