Have you wondered about how bat caves are like after watching Batman movies? If you are up for adventurous sightings around Khao Yai, bat cave sightseeing is a must-try activity on your itinerary.
For the first try, we went to Tham Khao Luk Chang Bat Cave which is pretty near to Primo Piazza. The route is slightly off road into a jungle. While there is a path, cars or bigger vehicles are not advised to enter as the car may get scratched. If you have off road experience for motorcycle, the path is still quite manageable. However, there were no bat encounters despite waiting from 530pm to almost 630pm. In fact, there wasn’t a single soul at the location even though we followed the pin based on Google maps.
Determined to see some bats, we went to research further and found another bat cave which is a 30 min drive from our hotel. There is no specific name for this bat cave but here are the coordinates 14.549254, 101.545786 which is named Bat Viewing Road on Google maps.
This place definitely looked more legit as there is a signage that says Bat Cave Khao Yai, and there were other tourists around too.
It is recommended to reach the location at 530pm and pick a nice spot to wait for the bats. We arrived at 525pm, and our first bat sighting was at 6:10pm. At this point, there were only a few small clusters of bats. Just have patience and you will eventually see millions of bats spiralling out from their cave.
As we were riding Motorcycle, we had an advantage of riding to a slight off-road path for a better viewing angle.
We were so impressed with the bat sightseeing, and just kept gasping at the sight of so many bats flying away from the cave. It lasted all the way till 7+pm but we left before it turned completely dark.
This was my second bat viewing experience but it was even more breathtaking than the first one as we had a much closer view. As the sun sets, some of the bats even flew right beside us! If you are planning to visit Khao Yai, you should really experience this for yourself!
