Review | Shi-ba Cafe at JB Mount Austin with Shiba Inu Dogs

After 2 years of not travelling, I finally stepped out of Singapore border for the first time since COVID became a pandemic, and we went to JB! It’s just a simple day trip but it’s the closest I can experience with travel.

Since there was nothing much to do at the malls, we decided to check out the Shi-ba Cafe at Mount Austin which is almost popular for various cafes and eateries. Quite a few animal cafes have already closed down so this was the only dog cafe I could find which also has pretty good reviews on Google.

It is recommended to make a reservation in advance through their WhatsApp to secure a table as it was quite crowded even on a Monday afternoon.

Along the streets, there is a stairway with Shiba Inu artwork that leads you directly to the cafe upstairs.

There is an admission fee of 10rm per person, and an optional top-up for dog treats 2rm (Shiba Inu) and 3rm (Alaskan). There are limited food choices with only 3 main dishes and a couple of side dishes. Each admission includes a soft drink too. Their tea series has quite a good variety and they use dried flowers instead of plain tea bags.

Each booking is guaranteed with a 1 hour session, however, they did mention that we are free to play with the dogs after the 1 hour and are only required to give up our table if there are other bookings. We had a great time playing with the Shiba Inus, but sadly most of them actually rejected my treats with an exception of 1 or 2 greedy ones.

The Alaskan is super adorable! He was actually sleepy most of the time, probably because it’s still a puppy and require more rest time. It was pretty rare to catch him awake and playing with the rest of the doggos.

Really cute Corgi here!

The shibas attempted to escape from the fence hole which is quite hilarious when their butts were stuck in the hole for a while. I made a tiktok showcasing the Shiba butts.
My heart just melted <3
I ordered the Jasmine Rose with Lemon Tea, I think it’s a tad bitter but could be due to the long soak after I spent too much time playing with the dogs. Wouldn’t really complain for SGD 2.5 though. I really appreciate how the cafe doesn’t charge any minimum order and the admission fee is really affordable for just SGD 3.
