If you enjoy writing love letters to your partner, this might just be your next favourite date idea. This DIY record-making experience lets you record voice notes and turn them into a lathe-cut vinyl record, which is a meaningful personal keepsake for someone special.

Here’s how it works:
Preparation
Submit your voice recording before your visit, or arrive at least 30 minutes earlier to record it on the spot using their retro telephone.

I’d honestly recommend recording it at the store for the full experience as the whole setup really adds to the charm. That said, do note that the space isn’t very private, so if you’re shy or want something more intimate, you might prefer recording it in advance. But if you’re up for it, the vibes are definitely worth it. The retro telephone also adds an old-school touch to the audio, giving it a slightly vintage sound that makes the whole experience feel even more special and vibey.
You will also have to submit a photo in a specific format and size that will be printed and pasted on your lathe record.
Workshop experience
During the workshop, we were introduced to the history of lathe art and vinyl record making, as well as learning the differences between them. The sharing session was quite insightful, and while it wasn’t my cup of tea, my boyfriend enjoyed it alot. We also got to interact and touch different unique records.
Here’s where the DIY part comes in, we got to paste our photo onto the record ourselves.

If you have opted for the VIP experience, you get to ‘drop the needle’ yourself. It was slightly nerve-wrecking as you have to be really careful with the record.
The best part of the experience (for me) was listening to the ‘love letter’ voice note that my boyfriend prepared. It was such a nice sweet surprise. Overall, it was such a meaningful and interesting experience for the both of us!
