Happy Hour Club Cafe and Workshop in KL | “Build-a-bear” Review

Build a bear workshop has always been somewhat a childhood desire for me, but knowing that it’s quite expensive for a soft toy, I never really pestered my parents for it. And after growing out of that age, it just didn’t really occur to me to get it for myself anymore. That brand also exited sg and I’m not sure which country still has it now.

I’ve casually told my boyfriend about this when I shared about my customizable keychain some time back and I can’t believe that he surprised me with this workshop in KL.

It was supposed to be a surprise workshop for my birthday celebration pt. 2 and my eyes lit up when I realised that it was a build a bear workshop (kinda similar one).

Here are the steps to DIY your plushie:

1. Choose your plushie

I started out by choosing the bear (or plushie) as there are other options that are non-bear, and even animal designed bags. Bears are a classic and I couldn’t say no.

The price of the plushies ranges from RM 70-110. For my 30cm bear, it’s RM 90.

2. Fluff up your bear

Here comes the fun part – fluffing up my bear with this fluffinator machine. I had to step on the pedal to fill my bear with as much fluff as I want. I was a little greedy and made my bear fatter and rounder because it’s cuter that way. Overtime, it may also deflate hence I decided to add in more now (being kiasu)

3. Choose accessories

You can choose to dress up your bear with clothes and accessories or even add in a heartbeat/ recording. I kept mine simple by just adding a bathrobe (RM39). The bathrobe material is actually quite soft and nice to hug, and it comes with an additional towel.

4. Register a plushport for your bear

Now that your bear is “born”, it’s time to take its weight and height measurements, and give it a name and personality traits. You can register this on a google form that they provide and it will be printed on a “passport”. It also comes with a birthday. How cute!

I named it Mojo as it’s a combination of both our names and we have been using that for our shared albums/ couple app pet names.

This might seem like a silly extra feature but it’s what truly makes the bear-making experience special, as it’s your one and only unique bear.

5. Get it wrapped

After you are done, bring your bear to the counter to get it wrapped up and you can now bring it home!

I was truly touched by his thoughtful gift – not only have I always wanted a plushie from him so I can hug it when he’s not around, this plushie is actually even more meaningful as he remembered the small details that I’ve told him before.
