Review | Matchaya | Matcha Latte, Soft Serves and Roll Cakes

Matcha desserts and drinks got to be one of my favourite flavours ever, on top of my usual coffee “addiction”. Hands down Matcha flavour when it comes to ice cream and cakes though! It is seriously a dining heaven for the green tea/ matcha lovers at Matchaya when you’re given so many different choices of artisanal teas and desserts. There are also other flavours such as Hojicha, black sesame, Lavender, Sencha etc.

HSBC Entertainer App was having a discount of 25% so I thought why not give this a try!

Matchaya serves up a delectable range of mains and brunch items as well, which include some signature items such as Skagen Prawn Sando, Osaka Fluffy Pancakes and Tokyo Beef Short Ribs.

Signature Iced Koicha Milk ($9) is their signature recommended drink choice that is made with Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder. A couple more bucks but definitely worth the price difference! It was one of the best Matcha Latte I have ever tried so far – texture was velvety smooth and balanced without the weird grainy texture, it also left a sweet lingering aftertaste which was very well balanced.
A lot of the Matcha lattes I’ve tried elsewhere has this artificial sweetness which can get a little cloying after a while but I really enjoyed the bittersweet taste for this cup.

There are 3 grades of ceremonial tea in their store – Usucha, Koicha and Gyokuro.

I’ve been eyeing on this piece of Matcha Roll Cake ($6) for the longest time. I guess I’m just generally attracted to charcoal food items a lot. The texture of the cake could be a little smoother, but otherwise it passed off as a decent piece of cake. Bonus for the nice plating too. The red bean did feel a little weird as it was too clumpy, I was hoping that it would have some texture instead.

Uji Matcha Soft Serve Cone ($6.7) is a must-try! This soft serve is not the usual velvety smooth type. I’m not sure if they added charcoal bits but the grainy texture added depth to the overall ice cream and I LOVE IT. The Matcha flavour really comes through and it was not too sweet as well.
