You know how we love playing on monkey bars when we’re younger? Apparently, I still love climbing around and was so excited to try out this new indoor playground with obstacle course at Bedok Reservoir, called Action Motion @ Home Team NS. I have tried the Forest Adventure at the other side of Bedok Reservoir many years back but trying something indoors is a whole new experience! Besides, Action Motion includes a gamifier system that will tabulate players’ scores for a fun competition with your friends.
You have to make a booking in advance on their website and each session is a 2.5-hour duration. However, it is alright if you arrive late – our session started at 3pm but we reached only around 4pm and we still had plenty of time to go extra rounds. In fact, it was quite tiring as some of the obstacles require a lot of arm strength.
We were given a pair of of special socks that helps with climbing over obstacles as there is a sticky grip with friction.
Prior to starting any games, you have the option to generate a profile, choose an avatar, and subsequently record your scores on the leaderboard upon completion of all the games.
There are several sections – Rapid Action, Motion Mesh, Ascend Lab, Valo Climb and Valo Jump with different difficulty levels and game types. It’s quite free and easy, and you can start with any sections as you please.
Some of the obstacles were quite tough but it was such a fun challenge to complete which brought me great satisfaction after. As there are no harness involved, it makes the process a little “scarier” even when there are safety nets.
I found the Valo climb experience quite unique which is a very different rock-climbing experience as it includes augmented reality (AR) elements. I found this quite uncomfortable as we were not able to wear any shoes so my sole felt quite pain after a while.
If you prefer the conventional rock-climbing, they have quite a few different walls with various difficulties for you to try out as well.
Simpler games include jumping on a trampoline, not just any trampoline but one that comes with action-packed games. There are various levels and gameplay where you can jump with all your might to beat your own high score or challenge your friends to a competition. This was pretty easy and didn’t require much technique, but it felt like a cardio workout on the crazy mode.
By the end of the session, I was quite tired (in a good way though!) since it felt like a proper good workout. Having a multi-level obstacle course in an indoor playground also makes the overall experience more comfortable since Singapore’s weather has been so unforgiving lately.
