Any Sanrio fan out there? Honestly even for someone who isn’t crazy about Sanrio characters, I have been wanting to try this decoden workshop for the longest time. Freetime Studio has many DIY products that you can choose from – oil lamps, phone stands, jewellery boxes, wall clocks, phone straps and more. As if the figurines choices are not extensive enough, there is also a bunch of mini cartoon charms and beads/ fimo canes to choose from.
It’s a heaven for Sanrio lovers, but you’ll also have a tough time choosing out the exact design that you want because you’ll be spoilt for choice! It’s mostly the same situation for me at every DIY workshop because I always cannot make up my mind.
I decided to make a Little Twin Stars storage box for my mum as she likes this Sanrio character, saying that Kiki & Lala is like my brother and I. My friend went for a more classic and elegant design for her mirror instead, and she chose a butterfly and pearls theme.
We had lots of fun picking out the charms, and if you’re a sanrio fan, this shelf here will definitely make you squeal with delight. If I didn’t already narrow down my choice to Little Twin Stars, I’m quite sure that I would be standing in front of this shelf questioning my choices like I’m making a life decision.
After picking out the figurines and charms, you can also choose the decoden colours. The staff guided us on how to pipe the decoden out from the tube (if you have any basic experience in decorating cakes, it’s pretty much the same as piping techniques, perhaps a little tougher as the consistency is thicker and dryer).
After piping out the designs, while it is still in the process of drying, you can stick on your decorative items like the figurines and charms. Personally, I found this part the most interesting (reminds me of placing fondant toppers on the cake which is the last step of decorating a cake).
And here are our final designs!
Do note that the decoden will take a couple of days to dry, and you can only collect your DIY projects on another day!
