Most cafes are aesthetically pleasing with a theme, but this homely cafe along Bedok Reservoir Road under the HDB blocks, just feels like home which is also the name of the cafe. It has a simple cafe layout decked with light wooden furniture and a few minimalistic paintings on the white wall. It is pretty spacious and has about 8 tables that mostly fits 4 pax.
When I stepped in front of the counter, I was greeted with a variety of food choices from pastries, to cakes and ice-cream, and immediately fell into a dilemma of choosing my lunch. Some interesting flavours include the Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake and Yuzu Osmanthus Cake (Although I’m not exactly a fan of Yuzu nor Osmanthus).
For those who are looking for a quiet place to do your work, you will definitely be super glad to know that there are plugs and free WIFI here! I was here on a weekday late afternoon and there were several empty tables so you don’t have to worry about hogging seats as well.
They also serve waffles with ice-cream and the flavours that caught my eye were Black Sesame, Salted Caramel and Milk & Honey. Perhaps I will give the ice-cream a try on my next visit to Home Cafe.
I made my decision on a Turkey Ham & Spinach Quiche ($5.9) and an Iced Mocha ($6.5). For $6.5, the size of the iced mocha was quite a surprise (in a good way), and even after the ice has melted, the taste was not diluted at all. The coffee is a tad bitter for me but also because I’m generally a sweet tooth when it comes to coffee.
The quiche was quite well-made and I was quite happy with the generous fillings! It actually reminded me of the Starbucks quiche. Even after more than an hour, the quiche was still quite crispy and was not too crumbly in terms of texture.
