Review | Soul Coffee | Horoscope Drinks and Immersive Projections

Not gonna lie, I am usually drawn to gimmicky food and drinks, but of course they have to taste good as well. Recently opened in Kinex Mall, Soul Coffee is one of the latest instagrammable whimsical cafes with immersive projection like underwater theme and seasons.

The misty entrance creates a mystical ambience and the vertical botanical landscape makes the place quite dreamy. If you are interested in gaining insights to your past, present and future, they also have tarot reading services

There is a corner near the entrance with a crescent swing where you can take nice photos as well.
The cafe includes a wide selection of cakes from mille crepes, to cheesecakes and artisanal tarts. There weren’t any price tagged to the cakes but we found out that the ones we picked were $10 each. The prices does not include service charge but is still quite pricey in general.

The dreamy ambience from the seasonal projections make the cafehopping experience a wonderful one. It felt like I’ve stepped into SEA Aquarium. In fact, my brother initially thought that I was at SEA Aquarium restaurant when he took a glance at the video I’ve sent to him.
Another unique selling point is the Signature Horoscope Coffee and Mocktail which caught me in a huge dilemma whether to order a “safe” flavour or to stick with my horoscope – ARIES.
The Aries Coffee is made of signature espresso with milk, osmanthus and orange topped with cheesecake whipped cream. I don’t usually like orange flavoured desserts or coffee in general but this was surprisingly refreshing and actually tasted pretty good. The osmanthus after taste was not too overwhelming and left a subtle sweet note.

My friend Serene ordered the Capricorn Coffee which is made of signature espresso with oat milk, tau sar piah, salted caramel and vanilla. I took a sip but I found this quite sweet to my liking. The flavour is quite unique with the tau sar piah though.

The Strawberry Pistachio Tart was decent with a crispy crust and delicious filling. However, the price was a tad too high for the size and quality. On the other hand, the Blueberry Mousse was quite terrible. The mousse is supposed to be light, soft and smooth; however this seemed to have too much gelatin in it, resulting in a very bouncy and artificial texture.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience with the horoscope themed drinks and beautiful underwater projections. However, the coffee were quite sweet in general and may not be preferred by the true coffee drinkers. If you are looking for a unique themed cafe to catch up with your friends, Soul Coffee is a great place to consider with its whimsical theme.
