Welcome onboard Sushi Airways, your flight will be taking off soon.
Sushi Airways is a retro airplane-themed japanese restaurant along Baghdad Street which serves premium modern Japanese cuisine. Upon stepping in, the restaurant interior resembles an aircraft cabin with silver table and chairs, with large window panels that show the vibrant scene of the streets. Although the restaurant space is quite small and not overly fancy, the interesting aircraft theme compensated for it. We took the only seats that have the best view of the streets too.
Sushi Airways also paid a lot of attention to the theme decor and they made the menu look like in-flight menu together with boarding passes. (Not shown in photos)
Our fantastic dinner was kickstarted with delicious appetizers like Salmon Carpaccio and Hamachi Carpaccio. Sashimi was extremely fresh and well marinated. The ikura added a satisfying pop while enhancing the dish with a briny and subtly sweet taste. Check out the fats on the salmon slices, it tasted as good as it looked.
In case you are wondering why there are two bowls of edamame, there are two different flavours – sea salt and truffle flavoured. The truffle flavoured edamame had a very distinctive truffle taste and if you have a thing for truffle fries, this might be for you.
It was my first time trying a Soft shell crab salad and I was mindblowned by this dish. I love how they added tropical fruits like mango to enhance the sweetness instead of the usual salad ingredients. The vibrant colours also made the dish looked really appetising.
We had a few different types of maki and my favourite is no doubt the Lobster Mango Roll. The sweetness of the fresh mango and crunchiness of the cucumber combined with the savoury lobster meat was a perfect combo. In fact, I am still missing the taste till today.
Their portion of ebiko and lobster meat on the other maki dishes is quite generous too. Unfortunately, some of the maki rolls were a little too salty due to the seasoned powder added.
This unassuming dish didn’t catch my eye at the beginning, but it turned out to be one of my favourites. The Pumpkin Koroke was so crunchy and bursting with flavor, with mushy and warm pumpkin chunks in the middle.
Tsukune (Grilled Chicken Ball) had a bouncy and juicy texture, but I prefer the Soft Shell Crab with a crispy exterior and fragrant crab meat. The fried dishes were a tad bit salty though.
Triple Crunchy Chocolate Cake was a rich dark chocolate mousse on a crunchy hazelnut praline base, it was a little too sweet but I enjoyed the crunch. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Matcha Cake which has a bittersweet flavour that complemented with the red bean filling.
