It has been around a year ago since I last permed my hair and the curls have already been fading off over time. I’ve actually planned to perm it again before my birthday, but Rise Hair Studio approached me for a sponsored hairdo and of course I said yes!

Before photo:

I forgotten to take a proper “before” photo, but from this pic you can tell that my hair is quite flat and it’s losing its shape. My hair grows very fast and I’m actually not willing to trim and cut it often as it will remove the perm effect on my hair. This explains my ridiculously flat hair sometimes. Maybe I should make it a point to visit hair salons regularly.

Anyway, Rise Salon offered me a haircut and a choice of perm/ rebond/ dye. Wavy hair is still my top choice. I also told the stylist about my concern regarding the “flat hair” and he recommended the Root Perm.

Root perm is the perming of the bottom hair layer nearest to your scalp in order to create a voluminized effect and fluff up the hair. The small right curls might be a little obvious if not covered properly but I’m totally fine with that. My friend even commented that my hair looks like it has much more volume now and I am more than happy with it!! Another trick to have bouncier hair is to blow dry your fringe on both sides so that it doesn’t form a semi-permanent hair shape.

The process:

The whole process took about 2 hours, and I’m done!

The digital perm gave me so much volume thanks to the stylist. My hair also feels much lighter after the haircut which reduces the flatness caused by the heavy weight. My length was still quite long (seen from the back), but most of the hair was cut to form layers which enhances the perm. Yay to bouncier hair!

After 2 weeks of the perm:

The root perm is still quite obvious but the curls have subsided into natural-looking waves without any styling. If you prefer something more outstanding, you can make use of styling gel or a little of wax to get back the big and obvious curls. It depends on your preference! Usually my curls are more obvious when my hair is swept to the front.
