Food-tasting Invite: Taiwan Railway Bento 台湾鐵路便當 @ CT Hub

Taiwan Railway Bento, as the name explains, is originated from Taiwan where locals consume their bento boxes during long train journeys. You no longer have to travel to Taiwan in order to have a taste of these comforting and hearty bento meals as there are two outlets in Singapore to satisfy your palate. If you are looking for a quick meal around the vicinity, I highly recommend you to give Taiwan Railway Bento a try!

You can also check out other food reviews here:

This photo was taken when the restaurant is already closing, which explains the emptiness of the place. Otherwise, the place is pretty crowded especially during lunch hours! You might want to order takeaway instead.

Here comes the food!

Deep Fried Mushrooms

The mushrooms have a nice crisp which thankfully did not have the “floury batter texture” that I dislike. The mushroom taste was not very distinct but I am perfectly fine with it as I do not prefer the strong mushroom flavor.

Quoted from bf: The fried mushroom and chicken are similar to the ones you can find in Pasar Malam stores, but these are obviously the better and tastier versions.

Century Beancurd

I took a tiny little bit of Century Egg and I couldn’t stand it (Not due to the food standard but my own preference as I have always hated century eggs). But the Beancurd was silky smooth and the black sauce had a mix of 酸甜辣 (Sour Sweet Bitter Spicy) flavor, which I enjoyed a lot.

Fried Chicken Cutlet Bento

$6.80

Just take a look at the huge portion! They are certainly generous with the food quantity at Taiwan Railway Bento. For a decent price of $6.80, you can be assured to have a satisfying and filling stomach at the end of your meal. This bento also comes with some braised minced pork below the chicken and I like the combination, which makes the rice less dry. The chicken was served piping hot – crunchy outside and tender inside.

Braised Minced Pork Bento

$4.80

This is a delightful box filled with goodness of braised minced pork inside. Perfect for those who wants it quick and simple. The aromatic thick gravy makes a good match with the rice. Don’t be fooled by the outer look of the bento box! This is also bf’s favourite bento, while I preferred the chicken cutlet bento. The 酸菜 that comes along with every bento set was surprisingly not too sour, which makes it enjoyable to consume along with the rice and meat.

Taiwan Railway Bento also sells some Taiwan snacks, if you are interested do check them out!

For a decent and affordable price, this bento box is popular among the working adults as well as for those who are looking for delivery/catering services. They are quite generous with the portion and the most important priority is that the food tastes great as well. If only they open a stall at my school though.
