I’ve been to a number of art and craft or DIY workshops in Singapore, but Wa Studio really stood out with their impressive number of charms for the decoden workshop. If you’re into cute charms, this place will be like heaven to you, because my friend and I were gasping with excitement upon stepping into their studio.
Decoden Workshop
1. Pick a base (small-large) ranging from mirrors, phone stands, storage boxes, jewellery boxes to tissue boxes.
2. Pick from their charm collections (It’s currently unlimited, but not for long!)
They have over 1500 different types of charms and it’s MAD CRAZY. Aside from the popular themes like Sanrio, Pokemon, Disney; they also have uncommon and nostalgic characters like Mario theme (it looks like a complete set omg), Sailormoon, Powerpuff Girls and Crayon ShinChan.
We’re pretty shocked that the quality of the charms were super good?!
But if you’re not into specific cartoons like these, they also have classic designs like ribbons, floral, alphabets, and even bakery themed! (which I was crazy over)
3. Pipe the decoden and place the charms on top
The decoden piping part was quite alright for me, I think the real fun comes from choosing and assembling the charms. You can collect the final product on the same day as they also provide a hot gun for you to expedite the drying process.
3d Figurine Painting
I’ve done many art jamming workshops but this is the first time I’m painting on a 3d item (if I’m not wrong). But it’s not just any 3d items, they have SO MANY CUTE CHARACTERS – Sanrio, Pikachu, Marvel, Disney etc.
I picked Kuromi even though I’m not a fan of it as I wanted to give it to my friend’s kid, and it seems to be more challenging as well.
This workshop is a lot more straightforward, simply pump some acrylic paint onto your palette and start painting away! But it’s actually harder than it seems as you may be required to paint a few layers to get a more even layer. It was still a fun experience though!
Acrylic Pour
This workshop had the shortest duration of all. It’s not my favourite, but I do get why it’s so popular as it can be quite therapeutic to pour the acrylic onto a 3d figurine where each and every piece would be unique, as there is no way the designs can be replicated.
You can choose from many colours and we picked pink/ purple/ white combination as we’re pastel gurlies.
For this workshop, you need to wait for 7 days before you can collect the completed piece.
