We Played Squid Game Honeycomb Challenge at Brown Butter Cafe

I chanced upon Brown Butter on some IG post some time ago and I was already tempted to visit this cafe because of the floral and pink aesthetics. But what made us really excited was the Honeycomb challenge inspired by the latest Netflix #1 show – Squid Game! Apparently, the show is so hyped now that many brands are jumping on the bandwagon with ‘Squid Game’ marketing tactics.

We visited Brown Butter on a weekend and was disappointed to find out that the Honeycomb challenge is available on certain days (Blame myself for not checking first). Being determined to experience this, we came back on another weekday to give it a go, and there was still a queue. Be prepared for a long wait if you’re going there too.

Squid Game Honeycomb Dalgona Cookie Challenge

Available on weekdays 12-6pm (Check their IG for updated info)

Minimum spending of $30 per table to get 1 cookie each

Each person has a limit of 2 minutes to carefully break the dalgona cookie without ruining the shape (just like in the show), the winner gets to redeem a free food/ drink item, while the loser has to take photo with the black coffin gift box and share it on IG.

AND I DID IT! Like within 30-35 seconds.

The toothpick didn’t really work for me as it became blunt very easily, I ended up breaking the cookies with my hands which worked really well. My brother, on the other hand, didn’t have much luck with the star shape. We cannot request to choose the shape so it was given to us randomly. The circle looks like the easiest shape.

The staff started the timer but proceeded to walk away for the next few minutes so I guess you can try to use the cheating methods from the show (Not gonna spoil it over here hahaha)

The cookie was also really super sweet (and sticky), I mean it’s made of sugar and water, so that’s pretty expected. I also just found out that Dalgona cookie came about because of a Korean street honeycomb snack, and Dalgona Coffee is an inspired name because of the sweet foam resemblance.

The cafe is really gorgeous with the hanging fairylights, floral pink flowers and garden decor, as well as pastel pink hearts plastered on the wall. Some of the tables have really instagrammable designs with the angel wings at the back of the seat. If not for the long queue, we would probably have requested to wait for that specific table for the sake of taking photos!

We tried our best to put on matching outfits that are turquoise/green/blue related. We actually almost wanted to splurge on Squid game tracksuits but it was too last minute to get one.

We ordered a Cheesy Chicken Waffle with Mac and Cheese to share as we already had lunch at home. The waffles were decent and the portion was quite generous, but the Macaroni itself felt a little redundant to the entire dish. We have tried better waffles than this but there wasn’t a lot to complain about and overall it was still quite a pleasant dish to enjoy!

The Messy Matcha Sakura Latte was on the pricier side @ $9.50 per cup. But we ordered it for the gram anyway. The drink was really sweet even for my higher-than-average sugar tolerance. I also expected it to be warm/ hot but the drink was at room temperature, slightly on the cooler end. I guess it’s due to the cream.

Their Honeycomb challenge will be available till 24 October 2021.
