Full of Luck Club @ Holland Village

I’m definitely feeling lucky while I was stepping into this restaurant, and perhaps I can be on a winning streak after dining at Full of Luck? #kidding. It did feel like the restaurant has a very auspicious setting with a gigantic Fortune cat greeting you with both paws the moment as you are climbing up the stairs.

Full of Luck Club is a casual Cantonese dining restaurant with a modern twist. Not usually a fan of burgers but I was super excited to try their popular baos! (which means steamed bun)

The restaurant has a simple interior setting with wooden finish, and the walls are furnished with some colourful posters of their restaurant name. I can’t help but notice the brightly lit birds resting on the blue plank.

One of their restaurant’s highlights is their BAOS, which I was already eyeing from the start. They offer Salted Egg Yolk Prawn Bao, Braised Pork Belly Bao, Kung Pao Fried Chicken Bao, Smoked Duck Bao and Panko-crusted Portobello bao. (any 2 for $9.80). Out of the 5 different flavors, my favourite was the Kung Pao Fried Chicken which is a classic taste of spicy chicken, lettuce, chilli and crushed peanuts. I love its spicy crisp, perfectly balanced with the soft steamed bun. It wasn’t such an hassle to eat and the waiter was very kind to cut the buns into half for us to share different flavors.

I think I can easily indulge in just the buns alone and that would keep me happy for the rest of the day. My second favourite would be the Braised Pork Belly Bao. This was a surprise because I thought that I would actually prefer the smoked duck instead. Similar to the original Kong Bak Bao, except that this is a modernized style, I love how the steamed bun absorbs the sweet sauce of braised pork belly, making it such a delectable finger snack!

Even though the baos were my favourite dish of the day, I can’t deny that the Chilli Glazed Fried Fermented Bean Paste Chicken Wings ($8) looks the most appetizing especially while I’m looking through the photos now. It’s almost like a wake up call for my hungry tummy.. The chicken wings were balanced with the right amount of spice and sweetness, which continued to linger in my mouth for quite some time.

Another of a highly recommended plate that was on the menu is the Crispy Aromatic Duck ($35 for half), which is eaten in a similar way like the Beijing Peking Duck. The duck is shredded into thin pieces which you can then pair it with hoisin sauce, cucumber, shredded spring onions and steamed Chinese pancakes. It’s not the best that I have eaten. Without the skin, one might find that the duck meat is a tad too dry. Otherwise, the entire combination is decent enough.

If you haven’t had enough of the delicious savoury baos, perhaps you can end off with a dessert twist – Hokey Pokey Ice Cream Fried Bao ($6.50), consisting of Cocoa chips, toasted marshmallow and creamy honeycomb ice cream. Surely this will make you have a different impression of burgers!

Full of Luck really lives up to its name as we were each given a Fortune Cookie to end off our delicious meal with a lucky message. Oh and there’s also a 4d number behind!
