Review | DIY Suncatcher Workshop with TheCozyCabin.co

I was looking around for DIY workshops to give my friend a birthday treat recently and came across The Cozy Cabin. I think it was a rather unique option compared to the usual workshops like art jamming, resin making, leather crafting and more. I came across this during Artbox where they were selling pretty suncatchers and sneaker chains which caught my attention.

The Suncatcher workshop (1.5h) is $68 per pax which is quite reasonable and similar to most other standard DIY activities. Each workshop entitles you to either 1 big suncatcher or 2 mini versions.

The co-founder conducts the workshop in a home-based studio located around Redhill. If you prefer a proper studio environment, then this may not be suitable for you. But for my friend and I, we were quite okay with it, in fact there were only two of us during the workshop which makes it even more private and cosy! You can also bring in your own drinks like bubble tea to enjoy during the session.

When we arrived at the home-based studio, all the crystals and charms were already laid out neatly on the table. The vibrant colours and variety made us so excited! She gave us a brief introduction about suncatchers and taught us a few basic techniques on how to work on the tools, which can also be applied to jewellery making.

After that, we were given some time to choose the colour themes and design. Trust me, you’ll probably be stuck in a dilemma like the both of us. You can also browse through their photos on website or IG to get some inspiration. I highly recommend you to have a rough idea of the design you like before going to the workshop as it will save you ALOT of time.

I made 2 mini suncatchers as I preferred to use it as a bag keychain rather than hanging it on my window grill. I made a pink and black one to match different outfits. Once I had the rough layout, I started to assemble the pieces together. This actually required quite a lot of effort and patience to go through and at some point my hand was a little pain from cutting the wires. The results are worth it, I promise!

Here are my final creations! Not to worry if you don’t have experience in jewellery-making and afraid that the pieces will fall out if they are not tightened properly. She will actually double check every gap and fix it for you before you bring your creations home. There were quite a lot of other designs but both were quite similar to the dreamcatcher look as I like dreamcatchers, in addition I had to take into account of hanging them on my handbags so I chose more rounded designs to prevent scratching.
