Fluffy cloud eggs ain’t new to me, but it’s the first time I’m actually trying it from Mosanco Enchanted Cafe, which is a hidden gem along Bedok North Road. Literally hidden at a corner of the blocks.. Not sure if it’s just my GPS but we had a hard time locating the cafe. It could the reason why there wasn’t much crowd on a weekday afternoon. Love the interior decor though!
The Almond Butter on Toast ($9.9) which was served with sourdough topped with homemade almond butter, fluffy cloud egg and salad, was simple yet impressionable. I personally prefer spreads that have a more gritty texture as compared to the smooth types, as it adds texture to the dish. Hence this was perfect. I found that the taste was also very familiar, and it took me a while before recalling that it was quite similar to the peanut filling of a glutinous rice ball (Tang Yuan).
I can finally add this to the types of different egg styles that I have tried!
The egg whites are fluffed up and had a very light texture. I think it’s quite interesting and I wouldn’t mind having it again! In case you are wondering how this is made, the egg whites are whisked to stiff peaks and cooked together with the yolk, giving the cloud-like resemblance.
Since we already had a sourdough toast, we ordered the Croissant with Stuffing ($9.9) for a different variety. The croissant, albeit dry, was very crispy and flaky which I appreciated. Some of the croissants which I have tried before were usually soft and soggy.
The crab filling from this dish also compensated for the slightly dry texture, and had a sweet and savoury flavour.
Their pots of tea have very interesting magical names to match their Enchanted theme, such as The Enchantress Potion, Witch’s Spelling Spell, Pixie Dust and more! We enjoyed the Enchantress Potion which is an earl grey tea infused with floral cherry blossoms and rose. The tea tasted as good as its name, with floral notes that are pleasant to taste. My brother commented that it reminded him of scented candles. I personally find the resemblance rather subtle and acceptable though.
The cake selections were very tempting, but the prices are slightly on the higher end, at $8.9 per slice. We had the Belgian Chocolate Crepe Cake, with addictive layers of vanilla and chocolate cream that were not too sweet nor cloying. I was hoping that the crepe layers could be thinner and softer in texture, but crepe cakes are really not easy to perfect. And honestly, this was not bad!
