Review | The Urban Hideout | Pet-friendly Cafe at Sembawang

Exploring dog-friendly cafes has been added into my bucket list ever since Kuro came into our life. Having heard some great reviews about The Urban Hideout, we decided to check it out even though it’s really far from our place. It’s quite a hidden gem within Sembawang, alongside other shophouses in a quiet estate. I love how it’s pet-friendly indoors as well!

The brick wall foliage adds to the instagrammable feature if you want to take nice photos with your furry friends or #ootd in general. The ambience was quite cosy and the staff were extremely nice and friendly.

The cafe is slightly small and there weren’t a lot of people at the point we were having our dinner. Kuro being the puppy he have always been, couldn’t stop wailing and whining because he couldn’t go over to the other dogs since there’s no mingling allowed. Poor Kuro couldn’t enjoy the pet menu that day as well as he was still recovering from a mini diarroea.

We came in with average expectations for the food, but the standards have surprised us all.

The Nyonya Curry Chicken ($12.9) was comfort food at its best. Not too salty and oily, but still retaining the complex spices and flavours that makes a good curry flavour. Highly recommended if you’re looking for some simple, unpretentious and comforting food.

For pasta lovers, Truffle Al Funghi ($15.9) is a great choice – the truffle creaminess had just the right amount of balance, which also coated the linguine perfectly. I personally prefer it to be less salty but overall it was a very pleasant dish. You can also add on Pork Bratwurst for $3 since the pasta did not come with any meat.

I felt like the star of the day was the Eggs Benedict Waffles ($16.9) with smoked salmon ($2).

The waffles was one of my favourites of all time, just one bite into it and I was already commenting how good it tasted. Its airy and crispy texture didn’t feel gelat at all. And even towards the end, the waffles surprisingly did not turn soggy too! I am really looking forward to try the waffles with their gelato ice-cream on my next visit.

The hollandaise sauce also had a smoky taste to it, adding more flavour to the dish.
