Food-tasting Invite: Salt Tapas & Bar by Luke Mangan

Salt. You must be wondering, out of a whole bunch of possible choices, why ‘salt’? Turns out that salt used to be a rare and expensive commodity that was only shared among close friends. The concept of Salt was to express its friendship and hospitality to their restaurant patrons. No wonder Salt Tapas & bar had such a chillax feeling and vibe, and it made me feel extra relaxing on a weekend afternoon.

The interior of the restaurant had a interesting balance of brick and wood decor, when it comes to restaurants like this, your food instantly becomes VERY insta-worthy, of course only if you know how to utilize your surrounds well enough! But seriously, we had a great time snapping photos of the food here.

Spiced Cashew Nuts

$7

It was no doubt a pleasant start with this plate of spiced cashew nuts – roasted to its fine golden brown colour. Cashew nuts itself is already one of my few favourite nut choices, and with the spices on it, it’s like an extra perfect addition. I suggest you don’t finish every bit of it right at the beginning, (though it might be highly tempting to do so), you can save it to nibble snack on it in between your mains.

Roasted Garlic Flat Bread with Romesco

$8

Instead of being baked, the flat bread is grilled which gives a softer and pliable texture. The accompanying dip – romesco, has a mixture of roasted bell pepper, hazelnut and whole peeled tomato cooked together at low heat. Romesco with its mildly sweet and garlick-y flavour pairs brilliantly with the flat bread. In fact, I think it will go pretty well with biscuit crackers.

Not sure if it’s just me and my very weird taste, but I DIY-ed my flatbread by placing a slice of Parma Prosciutto ($15) on top of it with a delectable spread of Romesco on it. I was told that the Parma Prosciutto is cured at least 2 years and it came from Italy. 2 years! Oh my, that is a very very long process. The parma ham was very thinly sliced and had a delicate taste to it. But it was a tad too salty for my liking due to the sea salt. Pairing it with the flat bread seems to balance out the taste and also enhances the overall texture. But again, that’s just my preference!

Parma Prosciutto

Prawn Taco

Small $14 | Large $27

The fried shrimp was succulent and the mild spicy flavour of the chipotle aioli lingers after the first bite. The creamy and tangy sauce brings the taco to a whole new level, and it left me wanting for more! With the extra pineapple salsa and the bits of orange and yellow, I can’t help but feel the tropical vibe in this dish. It seriously looks so appetizing that I would love to pop it in my mouth right now.

White Sangria

If you’re curious, it’s a mix of Brandy, Cointreau, Lime juice, Apple juice, White wine with Fruits – lime , lemon, orange. I’m not a master when it comes to alcohol, but I enjoyed the drink.

Club Sandwich with House Salad and Fries

$24

The club sandwich is filled with layers and layers of goodness – bacon, fried egg, grilled chicken breast, roma tomato, arugula and rice vinegar mayo. All great sandwiches start with the bread, yes the bread is really important. A soft fluffy consistency with a slight outer crunch is what makes it perfect. And the ciabatta bread has what it takes to excel in both taste and texture. With fresh and delicious fillings in the middle, the sandwich was bursting with flavours in my mouth.

I was very delighted that I didn’t have to ferociously cut through the bread with my knife.

The fries were crispy but overly salted for my tastebuds. If you prefer less salt, you may request them to reduce it for you.

Ham & Cheese Omelette, Grilled Mushrooms, Fried Potato and Tomato

$19

Omelette can be one of the simplest pleasures in life. This plate completely WOW-ed us when it was served because it was so beautifully wrapped up, with the best part sealed tightly within the silky smooth egg skin.

I can’t help but feel a tinge of excitement when the good stuff oozes out of the omelette as we cut it open. While the exterior looks completely flawless, the egg was slightly undone on the inside, giving the omelette a soft texture that melts in your mouth. Yuuuuum~~

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and for those who tends towards Asian dishes, you just have to give this a try.

Blackmore Wagyu Minute Steak with Poached Egg, Grill Mushroom, Fried Potato & Tomato

$26

It is called a minute steak because the sides of the beef are only cooked for a minute. (Totally cannot tell). The beef is so tender and moist. Don’t worry about the exterior colour, they are only half cooked on the inside, which is the perfect doneness for me. And they are already cut into pieces for your convenience.

Once again, the slicing up of eggs (this time poached eggs) was equally or perhaps even more intriguing. Eggs are the best partners of beef, I just can’t deny that fact. And if you are a fan of Sukiyaki Beef, you will definitely understand me well. Check out this mouthwatering video taken by Joey! The presentation of this dish has already gotten my full attention.

Most mains came with the same few sides like Roma tomato and king oyster mushroom. I loved it so much, I finished my portion even though I was beyond full. The king oyster was really juicy and I could hear that squishy feeling when I bite into it.

The beef was also sprinkled with some sea salt. If you prefer something less salty, you can also request them to omit the extra salt seasoning.

Churros, Chocolate Sauce

$14

You know what? I have never tried Churros before (Okay, stop laughing). But this churros has won my heart over with its addictive crispness and heavenly taste. No wonder it’s also the most popular dessert at Salt Tapas & Bar. I am glad that the taste of cinnamon sugar wasn’t too overwhelming. The chantily cream was light, which was a perfect complement with the sweet luscious chocolate. It’s the perfect dessert to end such a sumptuous meal.

MUST TRY: Prawn Taco, Omelette, Churros
