Cup noodles have been an essential part of my supper life. Admit it, even though it doesn’t taste that fantastic as compared to a proper meal, it is truly a difficult temptation to get rid of. I ate so many cup noodles in my life and now I have the chance to create my very own unique cup noodle (And ramen too)!
The Momofuku Theatre at Cup Noodles Museum showcases the story of the cup noodles creator – Momofuku Ando. It is inspiring to know how much failures Momofuku has experienced before he became successful. For those who find that cup noodles are unhealthy and should not be eaten as often, it was actually an essential product during the wartime.
DIY Cup Noodles activity is a must-do when you visit Cup Noodle Museums at Yokohama. Remember to prebook your slot at the counter and return within the stated timeframe.
Price per person: 300yen (~SGD 3.7)
I feel that it’s really worth it because they don’t even charge a lot extra for the whole process! The whole DIY process takes about 30 – 45 minutes depending on the crowd.
Don’t worry about the complicated process, everything is really simple. Most of the steps include picking your flavours and turning the knob when you are told to do so. You will not get the chance to actually make the noodles from scratch by yourself. (But you can enjoy this experience at the Ramen activity instead)
You will have to pay 300 yen and get an empty cup at the vending machine.
Decorate your cup with the provided colour markers on the table and write today’s date. The cup noodles are only good for a month!
My brother tried to be funny and made a Korean spicy noodle cup design on Nissin cup noodle brand. Tsk tsk.
We can pick from 1 main flavour and 4 different ingredients from the counter. I picked the spicy tomato flavour, can’t really remember what else. I was quite sad that I didn’t get to try my own creation in the end as I became sick the next few days. It’s the experience that counts though, isn’t it?
We signed up for the Ramen workshop at the last minute and we were lucky that there were a few slots left!
Price per person: 500yen (~SGD 6)
Unlike the DIY Cup Noodles where you only get to choose flavours and decorate the cup, this workshop involves more hands-on activity with the manufacturing process of the instant ramen noodle – including making the noodle dough from scratch. We had to keep our hands clean and our parents could only take photos from afar.
Don’t we look cute with the chick headband?
We worked in pairs during the workshop. The process involves a lot of kneading and mixing, something I was already familiar with but it was still interesting as I had not worked with noodles before. I was actually a little concerned about language barrier, but the staff actually spoke to us in really good English. Quite impressed.
They also labelled our noodles so that we were able to claim the exact noodles that we have made.
Head over to the Noodles Bazaar if you are keen to try noodles from all over the world!
From this museum, you are able to view almost all cup noodle designs from different timeline and countries. Spot any of your favourite flavours?
This looks familiar right?
If you’re looking for interesting attractions at Japan and prefer something more family-friendly, I highly recommend the Cup Noodles Museum which is suitable for most ages (even if you’re not a cup noodle fan).
