This recent addiction of having buffets is getting worse, I am constantly craving for it ALL THE TIME. Even in school, at home, anywhere! I just feel like having buffets. The previous weekend I had Buffet Town, just found another popular buffet restaurant located at Orchard Central – Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant.
TRUST ME, you will want to make a reservation in advance because its always fully booked and the phone line is forever engaged.. Hate walking in queues, but in order to satisfy my never-ending cravings, we actually went there as early as 4:45 pm to start queuing when the buffet starts at 6. Walk-in starts at 6:15pm while the reservation queue starts at 6pm. You thought we are crazy enough to queue so early, but you know? We’re not the first in line.
I can’t believe we queued an hour plus for buffets twice!
Boyf was saying that the restaurant made a fat Sumo outside the restaurant, which implies that everyone will get fat from eating here because the food is sooo delicious.
Kiseki serves a wide range of Japanese cuisine from cold seafood like chilled prawns, crayfish, etc, Sashimi, assorted Sushi rolls, Italian pasta & pizza, Western grills, Jap all-time favourites such as Tempura, Chawanmushi, Nabemono with delicious desserts & cooling drinks to perfect your meal.
Succulent Seafood spread
Snow crab legs are acceptable, but they are quite small compared to some other Japanese restaurants like Kuishin Bo. There were only very little pincers. Some were sweet, some were pretty average. So do not have high expectations from this dish, after all. You get what you paid for. And I think it’s a really good deal already. What I did was to take more to compensate for the size of it 😀
I didn’t have clean hands to take a photo at that point of time, but if you were to cut open the meat, you would realize that the inside looks like those parasites found in the movie Pacific Rim!!! Creepy Crawlies. Haha, did I just spoil your appetite or cravings?
I think this is called ‘GONG GONG’, but I dare not try it because of the snail look. Well, I can imagine that it is seashell instead though.. Can anyone tell me if this is nice to eat?
Mussels are sweet and fresh, worth trying.
Sashimi Section
I’m quite surprised with the selection of Sashimi choices as other buffets usually only offer 2 to 3 types of Sashimi. At Kiseki, there’s Salmon, SALMON BELLY (AHHHH!! I LIKE), Tuna, Squid, and later on there’s even Hokkigai (Surf Calm) and some other Sashimi which I’m not sure of.
The FATTT salmon belly is just so delicious with its fatty and firm texture. The Salmon Sashimi here is better than most buffets I’ve tried before. Really fresh and they are really generous in the quantity and variety offered.
Western grills
For such dishes, each table is provided with some clips and you are supposed to clip on this if you want to order. The chef will cook it on the spot and waiters will serve it to your table when it’s ready.
The scallop was reallyyyyyy good. That chewy & bouncy texture just makes you can’t stop taking another one. We ended up having 2 plates of scallop. Having too much raw scallops for other buffets, it’s time for a change in having marinated scallops which taste equally satisfying.
He really likes the fried assorted vegetables though. Can’t remember how many plates he ordered..
Italian Pizza
All-time Jap favourite
Boyf said that the Tempura here is done really well. The crispy part isn’t separated from the meat like those really over-cooked ones. Everything goes well together.
Sushi section
Salad Section & Cha Soba
I’ve tried the Salad, not too bad. Fresh vege, fresh corn, but just like almost any buffet restaurants.
Tako Yaki
Hot Pot selections
Chawanmushi
I swear that this Chawanmushi is one of the best I’ve ever tasted! It has a smooth, silky texture akin to tofu but this is so much more savoury. It’s exactly like the milk custard I’ve tried in one of the famous restaurant in HK, just that it’s a non-sweet eggy & Japanese version. Even after a scoop, the custard still looks so pretty because the whole bowl is free of bubbles and rough edges. I also like its ‘wobbly’ texture which means that it’s really soft and just slurps down your throat easily.
I had 2 bowls of it, and I’m already craving for more now.
Desserts
Boyf said that the waffles was nice, but I didn’t want to try it because I prefer waffles that are freshly baked like the ones at Gelare. But he’s quite crazy over waffles so I guess it’s up to his standard.
You have to try their other desserts as well. If you are fans of Japanese-flavoured desserts like Green tea &Red bean, then you should really taste their desserts and pastries.
Can’t believe I’m spotting my favourite Macarons! Look at those Macaron “feet”!! I didn’t like the other 2 colours so I took white.
Ice-cream section
Mango, Chocolate, Green tea, Black Sesame AND EVEN WASABI FLAVOUR?!
I can’t believe that I’m seeing Wasabi flavoured ice-cream!!! I took 1 scoop of green tea, and a small lil scoop of Wasabi. But I spat it out after tasting a little because it’s too SPICY for me!!! Nevertheless, what an interesting and unique flavour for ice-cream! Maybe you can prank your friends muahaha.
Other cakes & pastries
No idea what is this because they only wrote Chef’s Recommendation.. But I love cakes with layers like that, because I love the combination of bitter plus sweet. It feels like Tiramisu to me. What I like about their cakes is that they come in smaller pieces which means you won’t get bored eating the same huge chunk of cake.
And my favourite Tofu Cheesecake! You seldom see this cake anywhere else except in some Japanese restaurants. So I was super thrilled when I saw it. If you haven’t tried Tofu cheesecake before, its basically almost similar to cheesecake just that it has a milder cheese flavour with a good balance of tofu. It is also a softer version of cheesecakes.
Anyway, if you want to try their desserts, remember to take them earlier. I took some at the start of the dinner. Lucky for me, because after we’re done with the main course, most of the desserts, especially cakes and Chocolate ice-cream are already finished. And I don’t see the staff refilling ):
The quality of food isn’t as perfect but for such an affordable buffet price, I’m definitely back for more!
