The fearsome creatures started attacking Earth many years before the start of the story. The Kaiju were far too strong for conventional military to defend the country, thus, humans created the robots called Jaegers to engage the Kaiju directly.
What amazed me is that two pilots can work together (Left & right hemisphere) to control the robot movements. Their minds are connected as one and this guides the robot to move in the way that they think. Two pilots are needed as the technology is too complex for a single brain to handle.
Unfortunately, these aliens have became bigger, stronger and nastier. And the attack frequencies have increased tremendously from months, to days, to hours and was predicted to be attacking in doubles and triples. The humankind was threatened once again. And it’s their last hope to defend their home.
Sypnosis:
“When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.“
If you give me one word to describe this movie, it would be AWESOME. I’ve watched it twice, once in GV, another in IMAX. And the fighting effects are way cooler and more majestic than I’ve expected. The visual effects are among the best of all time and their fights are astonishing. Watching robot machines fight against Godzilla-sized monsters just brings action movies to a whole new level.
The movie started off with great intensity, and the action ramps up perfectly with the Kaiju evolving into higher categories, creating the tension together with the whole audience. If you are expecting major fights between robots and monsters, this movie delivers what you want. There was never a dull moment throughout the entire film and it was engaging the whole time.
Of course, apart from the massive action scenes, there’s character built-up and story development as the movie plays. Some of my favourite scenes are how the researchers are finding ways to improve their battle successes. Humankind would not have been saved without them as a scientist Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) has discovered a way to neurologically link human brains by using ‘drifting’ with the Kaiju in order to find out how they think.
If you want to catch Pacific Rim, I would highly recommend you to watch it at IMAX theatres as the immersive experience and the giant screen makes the fighting Jaegers and Kaiju look massive and realistic.
