Top Favourite Childhood Cartoons

Cartoons used to be a huge part of my daily childhood. I still remember the times when I look forward to watching my favourite cartoon shows when it’s time for lunch. And I wouldn’t get bored watching the same few episodes over and over again.

Sadly, cartoons nowadays are not up to standard anymore. It might just be my personal view, but honestly, who watches cartoon cockroaches on the TV?

Anyway, here are some of the more popular cartoons that I have watched before! I hope you find this relatable! (In no specific order!)

1. Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice!

(PowerPuff Girls)

That’s basically a full-proof recipe (With an extra ingredient of Chemical X) to create the perfect little powerpuff girls!

Small cute girls kicking asses. I love that.

Somehow they managed to make the cartoon so lively, interesting and with the clichĂ© that “the good always wins over evil”. Sounds like a perfect cartoon for a young child. Oh, and because Bubbles is really adorable too!

I think the cartoon partly attracts my attention because of the variety of villains. Every episode is filled with interesting storyline. Who’s your favourite villain?

The slimy sickly Amoeba boys, arrogant and spoilt princess, evil monkey who constantly plans to take over the world with his machines or the evil Sedusa who disguises herself as a sexy mistress? (I think the name came from Medusa).

I think mine would be the infamous MOJO-JOJO! What an irony to give such a villain a cute name though.

So once again, the day is saved. Thanks to the… POWERPUFF GIRLS.

Never fails to end with that sentence haha. It’s like a trademark phrase of the cartoon.

2. The Cat V.S Mouse. Who will win?

(Tom & Jerry)

Ask any kid, “Do you know what is the cartoon that has a cat and mouse?” I think almost 100% will tell you it’s TOM AND JERRY!!!

In fact, I think it’s quite popular among children even nowadays, I just noticed that Mcdonalds had it as their Happy Meal toys recently. Reminds me of my childhood. Ahh.. Those times sitting in front of the TV and laughing like no tomorrow. #Childhoodmemories

The cartoon show is not only simple, family-friendly but also sarcastic and funny in nature. I bet Jerry is the only mouse that could outsmart a cat and there are some scenes where Tom gets owned BIG TIME. But most of the time, I really pity Jerry.

The scenes just got even funnier when Jerry always threatens to get the attention of this bulldog called Spike. When you were watching Tom & Jerry, who were you rooting for?

3. Gotta Catch ‘Em All

(Pokemon)

I think this might be one of the top favourites of all time! Not just popular in the 90s, but it is still loved by many Pokemon fans now. Even as a girl, I loved to watch Pokemon and I like Pikachu and Chikorita the most!! PIKA PIKA!!!

Pokemon is also my favourite DS game! Haha! Just that I will never make it to the end.

I cannot remember Pokemon names clearly so these are probably just few of those that I can recall, maybe plus a few more?

Charmander, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle.

I guess I like Pokemon partly because of all the really cute and adorable characters. I hardly like those that are so mighty and powerful.

And this scene is just so… expected for all the series. I can hear it ringing in my head already.

Team Rocket’s Motto: (http://pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/Team_Rocket’s_Motto)

  • Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
  • James: Make it double!
  • Jessie: To protect the world with devastation!
  • James: To unite all people within our nation!
  • Jessie: To denounce the evil of truth and love!
  • James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
  • Jessie: Jessie!
  • James: James!
  • Jessie: Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light!
  • James: Surrender now or prepare to fight!
  • Meowth: Meowth. That’s right!

And that awesome feeling when you hear the “DING!” sound.

Team Rocket is blasting off again!!!

4. The Guy With the Teddy Bear

(Mr. Bean Animated Series)

Before the animated TV series came out, Mr. Bean was actually one of my favourite comedy shows! It’s just amazing how he can make people laugh without uttering much words (Most of the time he is just mumbling to himself). I think it’s his natural expression that did the job.

I love the animated series, but I love the original series even more! How about you?

And his Teddy is also the cutest thing in the cartoon show! I ever had a keychain like that before!

5. Who Lives In a Pineapple Under the Sea?

(SpongeBob SquarePants)

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!!

Ready!!

SpongeBob SquarePants.. SpongeBob SquarePants.. SpongeBob SquarePants..

SpongeeeeBobbb… SquareeeeeePantssssss

Sorry I just had to do this. This song is just too.. Unforgettable. #earworm

This cartoon has too much ironies and weird stuff, but it’s still so successful and enjoyed by many children, maybe even adults.

First, you have a sponge living in a pineapple, then a starfish living UNDER the rock, and there are many more contradicting things about SpongeBob. You can read this interesting post: http://cols-life.blogspot.sg/2014/07/spongebob-squarepants-logic.html

The cartoon has no meaning at most times, with the characters doing silly actions, and it’s pretty amusing to see how Squidward constantly gets annoyed by SpongeBob. Plankton will always be that “villain” trying to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula.

I think as kids, you must be wondering how does the Krabby Patty really taste like!

Hey! I want that mini violin too!

6. Stupid Dog!!! Ooga Booga Booga!!!

AHHHHHH!!!!!

Sounds familiar? Sadistic people might love that scene of how Courage is scared by Eustace! My memory is pretty bad, I can only remember that scene very clearly. And perhaps there was this fox, and evil-looking duck?

I have always wondered in the past, how can a house just appear out of nowhere. It’s as if they are just living in their own world with no one around them, maybe except some random evil villains trying to capture Muriel. In which Courage will always muster his courage to save her!

7. I’m Strong To The Finish ‘Cause I Eats Me Spinach

(Popeyes The Sailor Man)

This might be a cartoon show that your parents will use to force you to finish your greens. HAHA! “Eat your spinach, it’ll make you strong like Popeyes!” Well, not that I have actually experienced that.

But I have never realized even once when I was young, that it was just plain weird for the muscles to be grown on Popeye’s forearm. I bet you didn’t too. Was that an intentional mistake? Hahaha.

Poor Popeyes always get beaten up and bullied by Bluto who is always snatching Olive away. Each time I watch it, I just feel like, “Arghhhh why must Bluto be so mean, I hope he get his ass kicked!!!”

And a can of Spinach always saves the day! Can I have one too??

8. The Most Uncensored Cartoon Ever

(Crayon Shin Chan)

I think Shin Chan is probably one of the childhood cartoons with the most nudity.

I loved watching the cartoon when I was young. Hey! Not that I’m a pervert or anything like that okay! But it’s still always hilarious to watch him draw an elephant on his *ahem*. Then he will drive his mum crazy and ends up with a big bump on his head.

I think the cartoon is not really meant for young children anyway.. Shin Chan is always caught blushing at hot babes and he will get all excited. But he’s only a 5 years old kid!!! LIKE WHAT ON EARTH.

Oh! And I love his cute white fluffy pup called Xiao Bai. (I’ve watched all the Cantonese versions so I’m not too sure what are their Japanese names)

He is always crazy over his DONG GAN CHAO REN!!!! Which is this superhero-like character in this photo.

9. Scooby Dooby Doo, Where Are You~~~~

(Scooby Doo)

The theme song sounds very very familiar to me, not sure why too. It may not exactly be my favourite cartoon, but I definitely have quite a strong impression on this show. At least till now, the tune can still easily be recalled. Haha.

Scooby-doo is basically a mix of comedy, horror, and mystery. And if you were a kid who loved any of such genres, you might find yourself being stuck to this cartoon.

And you might find this hippie van familiar.. And all the “runaway” scenes hahahaha.

The gang will always end up solving the mystery, catching the monster and realizing that it’s just a normal human behind all the scary encounters.

10. The Ghost Who Is Lonely and Wants Friends…

(Casper The Friendly Ghost)

Poor Casper is always going out to look for friends but sadly, he’s scaring everyone away from him because he’s a GHOST.

I watched most of the episodes that came out during that period of time. The story was light-hearted, and funny. Even as I click on YouTube clips to check it out while typing this blog post, it was nostalgic and I still find it enjoyable.

So… which are your favourite childhood cartoons?

Feel free to share in the comments below or let me know if you have some cartoons that you have enjoyed! (:
